Episode 26

• February 19th, 2019

I'm calling this a hodge podge or salad bar episode since it's an odd mix of topics that I just couldn't make full episodes out of.  There's mentions of my favorite creepy podcasts, talk about ghost telephone calls, and the plundering of antiques by the Nazis.

There's just nothing like turning down the lights and turning on a scary movie to watch on a wintry night.  And thanks to all the streaming services the choices are vast.  So here is a short list of my 5 favorite horror movies from 2018.  If you haven't seen them, they come with the Darkwood House Seal of Horrific Approval.  And as you listen to the show, when I mention each film you'll hear a portion of its soundtrack wafting in the background!

Episode 21

• September 13th, 2018

On this episode I talk about a place in Kansas City that I've cared about for many years, and that is now in danger.  Epperson House is on the UMKC campus, and it's been closed and sealed up.  I fear that unless something can be done to figure out how to renovate the historic building that it may be torn down.  I read and discuss an article I wrote about the history of the mansion and the years of neglect that it's had to endure.  I'm hoping to raise an alarm and spread awarness about it's plight in order to find a way to save an important piece of Kansas City history.

You can find my article here: http://www.squeezeboxcity.com/the-fall-of-the-epperson-house/

Listen as I talk about Sleep Paralysis and the "night terrors" associated with the phenomenon.  From The Old Hag to The Hat Man, there's much to fear in the night as we try to sleep.  Be sure to listen all the way until the near the end to hear a short but very special interview.  (Parental Guidance advised!)

This is my tribute to Art Bell.  He was the founder and host of what I consider to have been the greatest radio talk show of all time.  He and his show were what inspired me to do my own creepy podcast.  Art passed away on April 13, 2018 after a long illness.  But he leaves behind an amazing archive of his life in broadcasting.  I mix in some of my favorite clips of his shows for you to enjoy.  It was a great ride, Mr. Bell...
